MMDC September newsletter

By Webmaster | August 24, 2007

Just got the September newsletter from Terry, so here it is:

Our next meeting will by Thursday, September 20th, at 7:00 P.M.    We still need volunteers to help with the fall hunt. If you do not intend on participating in the hunt, the club sure could use some help in putting it on!!! The club really needs someone to step up and commit to helping, primarily with the cooking!

August 2007
Well, a total of eighteen members faced the intense heat, to make the August meeting. That is approximately 38% of our membership roll, which is about average. Of those attending we got some decisions addressed and finalized for the fall hunt.  Benny Hendrix purchase a 1901 $5 Gold coin & 1936 Cut Walker Liberty necklace, to be borrowed by the club to raffle. We will be selling raffle tickets at the next meeting for a chance on the gold coin. Also, the club will be asking for item donations for a box of relics to raffle as well. Lloyd Barlow and Steve Davis are to attend the coin show in September, in order to purchase the old coins for raffles and the remaining silver needed for the seeded hunt. Motion was made by Lloyd Barlow, 2nd by Pat Cook, to giveaway a total of three new detectors, preferably all Garrett Ace250 at the fall hunt, (motion passed). Pat Cook made a motion, 2nd by Lloyd Barlow, to purchase a pin-pointer as a token prize for the fall hunt (motion passed). Lloyd Barlow put forth a motion, 2nd by Bill Bugg, to purchase Garrett’s large hunt pack giveaway items, ($130), (motion passed). Benny Hendrix floored a motion, 2nd by Jim Bryson, for the club to purchase older unique coins as token prizes, (motion passed).

Split the pot winner was Karson Kee, son of Sara Kee, he can get him a new toy with the $12 he took home. No wheat penny bingo winner, however Jim Bryson, last month’s winner received his prize of a two peso gold coin!  Terry Clifton took home the door prize of a 1901 O Morgan silver dollar. There remains a gold coin in the door prize kitty for this year’s drawings, must be present to win! First place in finds of the month went to James Scaccia, 14K gold class ring. Second place finishers, Marcus Stafford, small metal figurine of a bull and Joey Rendon had a 1932 Italian 10C coin. Rounding out the competition of third place honors, Bill Bugg/Ornate Spoon, Jim Bryson/1933 Portuguese 2-1/2 Escudo coin, 65% silver, and Terry Clifton/10K Engagement Ring.

“HAPPY HUNTING!”
