To The Web Master: I could not find any email address for your club. Been up many hours. I hope you didn't mine me sending this info through your comment box. Thanks have a good day, Art...

Hello folks,
Some of you may have already received information regarding the Anti Relic Bill H. 4129. I am asking that we get this information out to all of your members as quickly as possible. The attachments provided will help. I , like many others OPPOSE this bill because it is unwarranted and appears to put another nail in the coffin for our hobby of metal detecting, bottle collecting , civil war relic collecting arrow heads, etc. There is a scheduled meeting this coming Thursday in Columbia South Carolina and I will be there to Oppose this bill. If you members could support this effort to deter this bill by emailing or calling the numbers provided or the email addresses, this would help out tremendously. Thank you for any support you can offer, Art Di Filippo, Carolina coin and Relic Association Pres, FMDAC SE Chpt Pres.

South Carolina is in need of everyone’s help. The proposed Anti Relic Bill H. 4129 is closing in on us. Friday I learned that the bill is slated for a public hearing on this coming Thursday 5/20/2010. The bill stipulates severe punishments for trespassing but the overall consensus is just another step in shutting down our hobby along with artifact collecting, bottle, relics, pottery, and the lists goes on. I believe it's time to do what we say we do. We need to get this information out to all clubs and people that love and enjoy this hobby of detecting, bottle collecting, arrow head collecting, pottery etc. send this to everyone you know that can possibly help us. Anyone knowing any bottle clubs, relic, artifacts, etc, please direct this info to them as well. "OPPOSE THIS BILL" This bill also includes serious jail time. We all realize that we must know where we are hunting at all times and be responsible for having permission to do so, but to the unsuspecting relic hunter crossing a property line unintentionally, it is pretty hard to defend yourself with a detector in your hands. I myself and many others believe this bill is unwarranted. There are already trespass laws in place. You can plainly see that we are the main target once again. I plead with you to help support us. I think that everyone can agree that we all metal detect because we love this hobby and it is quite obvious that there is a future agenda to STOP all of these hobbies. Please view the attachments. "Let’s get some phones ringing" I have just received an email address from Senator Glen McConnell’s office. Paula Benson is on the Senior Staff Counsel of the S.C. Senate Judiciary Committee which is part of the Senator’s staff. Her email address is: PaulaBenson@scsenate.gov she has been getting several phone calls already. Her Phone number is (803) 212- 6636 Please take the time to email her if you cannot call. The direct number to Senator McConnell is: (803) 212- 6610 He is the main person to contact and oppose this bill H.4129 If you can make a call or two more, call one or all of the sub-committee members. Let them know that you oppose the bill. If you get an aide on the phone, ask them how that particular senator "stands on the bill" - they must tell you. Currently, it is in Senate Sub-committee.
The Sub-committee members are:
Paul Campbell (R) (803) 212-6016
John (Jake) Knotts (R) (803) 212-6350
Floyd Nicholson (D) (803) 212-6040
Thank you for your time and support, Art Di Filippo

There will be a Judiciary Subcommittee meeting on H.4129 on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. in Gressette room 207. The members are Senators Knotts (Ch.), Campbell, and Nicholson.

Hello Memphis,
I am the secretary of our club located in East Tenn. We are SMARTS or Smoky Mountain Artifacts Research and Treasure Society. I have been viewing your web page and was wondering what your club dues are per year and if you allow non Memphians to join? I travel between Knoxville and Texas to visit my son and we always stay in Memphis to break up the long trip. It would be nice to stop in and visit one of your meetings, do a meet and greet and see all the fantastic finds you guys are discovering. Any way drop me an email and tell me what is happening with your club. Stop by our web site and see what we are up too also.

I am thinking about getting back into metal detecting. It would be great if you guys uploaded photo's of the 'Finds of the Month". I think that would help inspire folks! Where is the Feb. 19th meeting being held? Can anyone show up to watch?

Shelia:

Bring your son to a meeting! He's sure to pick up a few tips.

In answer to your question, a lot of people like the Garrett Ace 250, which has a street price around $200. It's a really solid detector and an excellent machine for a beginner.

Hi,
I am the mother of a 13 year old boy very interested in your club. He wants a metal detector for Christmas and I was wondering if one of you might let me know if a $200.00 detector will be a good detector. Any tips would be very much appreciated.
Also, does he need the probe, headphones, gloves etc...Thanks
